How DryMark Restoration Renton Was Born in Renton

We opened this branch in 2011 because we’d seen enough. A homeowner in the Fairwood neighborhood called us in tears. She’d already paid another company to dry her basement after a supply line burst, and they’d packed up after three days with a handshake and a bill. The drywall looked fine. Two weeks later, the musty smell started. By month three, she had visible mold behind the baseboards and a second deductible to pay.

We walked that job together. Measured the moisture with a pin meter. The studs were still at 18% - four points above the dry standard. No drying log existed. No readings, no dates, no proof of anything. The previous crew had guessed. She’d paid for guessing.

That afternoon, we decided Renton needed what DryMark already was elsewhere: a branch that documents every room, every day, until the numbers prove it’s dry. We called Haven that week. By fall, we had our first truck wrapped and our first moisture mapping kit calibrated. We’ve measured every job since.

Alicia Brennan’s Personal Connection to the Damage Restoration Trade

I came to this work sideways. I’d spent my twenties in property management, walking units after move-outs, after leaks, after the kinds of small disasters that turn into big lawsuits when nobody documents what happened. I remember the smell of a carpet pad that had been wet twice and dried zero times - that sweet, wrong smell that hits you before you see the staining. I remember running my hand along a baseboard and feeling the give where the drywall had turned to oatmeal behind the paint.

The tradesman who trained us was a mitigation specialist from the Tacoma branch. He taught me to read a psychrometric chart the way some people read weather patterns. He’d stand in a flooded living room and tell me the grains per pound in the air before he’d even turned on his hygrometer. He was usually right. I wanted that. Not the guess. The knowing.

What gets me out of bed is the before-and-after that lives in numbers, not photographs. A homeowner can’t see 12% moisture content. They can’t smell “dry.” They have to trust us. So we make trust unnecessary. We hand them the log: Tuesday, living room north wall, 14.2%. Wednesday, same spot, 11.8%. Thursday, 9.1%, within tolerance. Signed, dated, photographed. That’s the work.

If I weren’t doing this, I’d probably be arguing with insurance adjusters from the other side - I have the personality for it, and the adjuster who founded DryMark in 2011 clearly saw the same gap I did. But I like being in the house. I like the moment when a stressed person in Renton reads their drying log and understands exactly what happened and exactly what they paid for. That’s better than winning an argument.

Meet Alicia Brennan - The Person Behind Every Job

I’m Alicia Brennan, Owner and Founder of this branch. I’ve been in the restoration trade for over fifteen years, starting in property assessment and moving through every phase of mitigation and rebuild documentation. I’m certified in water damage restoration through the IICRC and trained on the full Haven documentation system, from initial moisture mapping through final clearance testing.

What separates me from a corporate technician is simple: I live here. My truck is parked in Renton tonight. I grocery shop at the same Fred Meyer as some of our customers. I know which blocks in the Highlands sit low enough to flood in a January storm, and which 1970s ranch homes in Kennydale still have original galvanized supply lines waiting to fail. I’m not dispatched from a boardroom. I’m dispatched from my own morning checklist.

Outside work, I restore vintage furniture - badly, sometimes, but with patience. Sanding a water ring out of walnut teaches you the same thing drying a house does: you can’t rush the process, and you can’t fake the finish.

My commitment to you is direct. Every job I sign gets my cell number. Every drying log gets my review before it goes to your adjuster. And every invoice gets compared against the written scope we agreed to before anyone started - that’s Haven Standard Clause 1, and it’s how I sleep at night.

Our Promise to Renton Homeowners

Have it in writing. We don’t start until you have a flat price, a written scope, and a written warranty in your hand. This isn’t courtesy; it’s Clause 1 of the Haven Standard. A homeowner in the Landing once told us another company gave her a “verbal ballpark” that tripled by day two. That can’t happen when the scope is fixed on paper.

Arrive on schedule. We text when we’re fifteen minutes out. We name your technician in the confirmation. We don’t do “sometime Tuesday” because you’ve already missed enough work.

Evidence on every job. Photos of what we found, not what we think happened. Daily moisture readings, room by room, until the numbers say dry. Your insurance company wants this. You should want it more.

No surprises. No “while we’re in here” upsell. No scope creep. If we find something unexpected, we stop, document, and write an amendment before we proceed. The only surprise we allow is how straightforward this can be.

Our Credentials

Our Credentials
  • State-licensed. Every pro working under our name is required to hold the license their state requires. We don’t send handymen to water losses.
  • Insured and bonded. Protection for your property and ours. We carry the coverage that lets us work in your home without you worrying about our ladder slipping.
  • Years of local experience. We’ve been serving Renton and the surrounding communities since 2011. That means we’ve dried homes after the 2015 windstorm, the 2021 heat dome pipe bursts, and the ordinary Tuesday dishwasher failures that don’t make the news.
  • Strong local reputation. We live where we work. Our trucks pass our customers at the gas station. There’s no corporate retreat to hide behind.

These matter because you’re letting strangers into your home during one of its worst moments. Licensing means someone checked our qualifications. Insurance means you’re not paying for our mistakes. Local tenure means we know which adjusters cover which zip codes, which permits the city requires for rebuilds, and which restoration equipment performs in Pacific Northwest humidity. Reputation means we have to face you at the hardware store next month.

Rooted in Renton

We dry houses from the Landing to Fairwood, from Kennydale up to the Highlands. I’ve eaten breakfast at the same diner on Renton Avenue since before this branch opened, and I’ve watched the Boeing Freeway traffic get worse right along with everyone else. We hire locally when we can. We source materials from suppliers who know the difference between King County’s permit requirements and Pierce County’s. DryMark Restoration is a national brand with a documented standard, but this branch is Alicia Brennan’s - my license, my trucks, my neighbors. The Haven Standard is what we agree to work to. Renton is where we prove it, one drying log at a time.
